Blogging: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Do you blog?

Blogging has always been an interesting concept to myself. I will admit I've had a blog since I was a Freshman in college. Although you would have never found me admitting or giving out the url. Blogging had a stigma around my friends and peer group. Blogging was for those strange kids, sitting in the corner by themselves. It was not cool. Yet, I enjoyed my little blog and I love reading other people's blogs. It becomes a way to make your life transparent for those around you.
I would love to have a blog for my classroom. I think that it creates an open environment for parents, grandparents, and other teachers. Maybe I'm just a nosy person but I love to hear and read about people's thoughts on the events of their lives. I know as a parent I would adore if my child's teacher had a blog about her experiences. It would let me understand better the type of education and type of teacher my child was receiving. I also find teacher blogs to be a great encouragement, inspiration, and resource for my own personal life. It is a way for me to see what other teachers have found that works or doesn't work. It allows me see other children growing. And hopefully gives me the opportunity to see other teachers struggle but power through the tribulations.
My only worry about having a classroom blog or a teacher blog is my timeliness and consistency. I would be worried that I would let it fall behind. This comes from personal experience with how relaxed and slow I was to post on my own personal account. Although I believe that a classroom one I could treat more like a weekly task and would have more meaningful posts to write about. I just wouldn't want to start something just to have it struggle to succeed and thrive.

How about you? How do you feel about teachers blogging? How do you view blogging and blogs?
